Library cards and rules for checking out items

Library card

In order to use the libraries within Lund University you will need a LU card or a library card. For students and faculty the LU card is valid as a library card. If you don't have a LU card, please collect one.

If you don't have a library account before please register online. Then visit any of our libraries to activate your LU card / library card.

If you not are affiliated to Lund University, please come to one of our libraries in person to register a library account and pick up your library card.

The Geolibrary apply the lending conditions of Lund University Libraries.

The library sends e-mail reminders containing information about overdue books and recalled books. Remember that you are responsible for returning materials on time whether or not you receive any e-mail reminders.

Loan periods at the Geolibrary

Course literature (textbooks)

Course literature has a 14 day loan period. This loan period also applies to researchers and teachers. You can renew your course literature up to 10 times unless it is requested by another user.

Monographs and other material

Monographs and other material in the Geolibrary have a loan period of 28 days but are renewed automatically five times (or 168 days).

For teachers and researchers loans are renewed 11 times (in total 336 days).

After this period the materials have to be displayed in the library in order to be renewable.

Note

Remember that it is your responsibility to check the due dates of your borrowed books - whether or not you receive e-mail reminders. Please log in to your library account in LUBcat to find out the due dates for all your loans.

Overdue fees

The Geolibrary charges overdue fees for course literature. Overdue fees are charged for late returned books and late renewed books. This also applies to teachers and researchers.

  • 10 Kr per textbook and day.

If your fines exceed 100 Kr your library card will be blocked. You will not be able to borrow or reserve books until your debt is payed.

If you lose a book or forget to return a book despite the reminders, we will send an invoice covering the cost of a replacement copy plus an administrative fee of 300 Kr.
